Some consumers prefer not to use a credit card to pay for their orders. If you put up a manual payment option, these clients can still place purchases online. You can make arrangements to accept payments from your clients in a manner that suits them best when they choose a manual payment option. Your consumer may get an invoice. The order can then be manually approved when you have received the payment.
On the Orders page, orders that accept manual payments are identified as unpaid. Once a customer’s order has been paid for, you can mark it as paid on the order details page and process the transaction as if the customer had made an online payment.
Use a recommended manual payment method or design a unique manual payment method to get started with manual payments.

Mark a manual payment as paid
On the Orders page, when a customer uses a manual payment method to place an order, the order is noted as Pending. You must manually designate the order as paid after receiving money for it.
Most orders can have their payment status changed using one of the following techniques from Payment Pending to Paid:
- Mark as paid – Use when integrating a previous order from another platform into your Shopify admin or when you have previously received payment for the current order. Your payment provider does not reclaim the received sum. The customer receives an email order confirmation.
- Pay by credit card – Use this option if you already have your customer’s billing information or if they are accessible to submit it themselves. Only Shopify Payments support this form of payment.
You might not be able to designate an order as paid if the customer used a payment method other than a credit card and the order is in the Pending payment status. More information on orders that have outstanding payments
