- To generate a return shipping label for your customer, select Create return label. This choice is only accessible if both your principal location and the shipping address for your customers are in the US.
- To upload an existing return shipping label for your customer, choose Upload return label. Upload the PDF or JPEG file for your shipping label on the Add return label page. If you have the tracking number and shipping company, you can enter them.

- To confirm, click Cancel return in the dialog box.
How does refunding in Shopify work?

To create a refund, use Shopify’s native order-editing features. You can choose to refill merchandise as part of each refund and notify your consumer through email. Based on your payment service, your refund may take up to 10 business days to process.
Shopify offers two different forms of refunds:
- An entire refund
- A partial refund
A complete refund covers the entirety of the customer’s order. Most frequently, this kind of refund is given for single-item purchases that the buyer later decides not to keep, such as a blouse that was ordered in the wrong size. For a multi-item order, such as a collection of gifts that are no longer required, a client can still desire a complete refund.
If a consumer only wants their money returned for a single item from their order, they will ask you for a partial refund. Imagine if a customer asked you to replace a blue dress with a crimson one. With a few modifications, you can follow the same steps for this Shopify exchange or other refund as you would for a complete refund.
Refund an entire order
Addressing a complete refund for all items in an order is possible.
Steps:
- Go to Orders in your Shopify admin.
- Select the order you want to cancel.
- Tap Refund.
- Enter how many of the ordered items you want to get a refund for.
- Any shipping costs are deducted from the total refund amount, not the entire refundable amount. If, for instance, you want to add a restocking fee, you can manually alter the refund total. Additionally, you can include a refund for any delivery costs.
- Optional: In the Shipping section, fill the shipping fee that you want to refund.
- Optional: Decide if you want a refund if the order contains customs and import taxes. Duties, import taxes, and other charges on returned goods: clearing customs
- Uncheck Restock items if you’ve despatched the items but your buyer hasn’t yet returned them. Only if you are keeping track of inventory for the products in the order is this checkbox available.
- Optional: Input a justification for the refund.
- Uncheck this box if you don’t want to email your customer when you provide the refund. Send the client a notification. By default, this selection is selected.
- To cancel the customer’s order, click Refund.

- Optional: In the Shipping section, enter the shipping fee that you want to refund.
- Enter a justification for the refund if desired.
